About The articles

The Electronic Author is a site dedicated to providing news, information, and hands-on tutorials and tips for creating, marketing, and developing e-books for e-readers and tablets like Amazon’s Kindle, Barnes & Noble’s Nook, and Apple’s iPad and iBookstore. If you’re an author frustrated with going through the traditional publisher route, or if you can see that the future of reading involves e-books, especially interactive e-books, then The Electronic Author site can help you create, package, submit, and market your e-book.

The world of e-books is changing rapidly. Early e-books were little more than static text and pictures that resembled ordinary PDF (Portable Document Format) files. Those are the old style e-books. Today’s modern style e-books involve interactivity with tools and technology that’s often more than overwhelming to the average author. Yet if you’re willing to take a little time to learn, you might find you can create interactive e-books far easier and faster than you might think.

The world is moving towards e-readers, tablets, and interactive e-books because printed books are getting increasingly too expensive to print, store, ship, and sell. With major bookstores like Borders Books going out of business and Barnes & Noble barely surviving, there will be fewer bookstores that can sell books, which means less money for publishers. With fewer sales, publishers can’t risk publishing anything but what they hope will be surefire sellers. That often means publishers won’t accept any manuscript for publication unless the author either has a huge following already, or is already an established name in the publishing field. For most everyone else, the traditional publishing route is not an option.

By bypassing traditional publishers, you can keep all rights to your work (traditional publishers buy the rights to a manuscript), keep the bulk of the profits (traditional publishers keep most of the profits and pay authors a royalty around 10%), and maintain complete control over your writing. The disadvantage with electronic self-publishing is that you must publicize and promote your e-books yourself through blogs, websites, and social networks. If you’re willing to promote your own e-books, you may find that electronic self-publishing can be both rewarding financially and emotionally.

So take the time to browse through the various articles posted on this site. If some of the information is too technical, don’t worry. Just focus less on the technical details and focus more on the results of the technical details. The more you know about your options for electronic self-publishing, the better the choices you can make for yourself, and that’s what The Electronic Author can do for you.

You can publish an e-book, and The Electronic Author will show you how. With electronic publishing, the dream of publishing is within everyone’s reach. Even better, so are the bulk of the profits, so don’t be afraid to learn the ins and outs of electronic self-publishing and you too can become an electronic author faster than you might think.
